what to wear to a spring wedding

What’s the number one question showing up in my DMs lately — what to wear to a spring wedding! But before I share my dress picks let’s break down wedding dress code terms so you’ll be perfect dressed at your next wedding!

white tie or black tie

This is the most formal wedding there is! White tie is like going to a White House Gala or the Oscars. Black tie is slightly less formal. Both with require long full-length gowns, jewelry, and appropriate hair styles.

Can you wear red to a wedding? YES!
Just don’t wear white or off white… that’s reserved for the bride.

UPDATE — JUST found out in certain Asian cultures, it’s bad manners and very unlucky to wear red. So just use your best judgement!

formal or black tie optional

Invitations with formal or black tie optional means you can wear a long formal evening gown, dressy suit or formal cocktail-length dress. Most weddings will say “formal” and especially with it going into the summer you can wear shorter lengths. Just make sure the fabric is more dressy like this dress or the one I’m wearing in today’s post!

cocktail attire, semi-formal or dressy casual

All of these terms depend on the time of year and time of day. I always perfer to be on the dressier side, so I would suggest wearing a dark formal dresses for night and light fabric and colors for daytime weddings. Basically you can’t go wrong with a dressy cocktail dress.

casual or daytime

A summer sundress or a skirt or pants with a nice blouse will be perfect for this kind of wedding. I would just say away from jeans!! A cute spring jumpsuit would be perfect and the dress above would be cute too.

the number one wedding gift

And you want to know what the number one wedding gift is? According to The Knot it’s this bowl set from Williams Sonoma. I have it and use it almost every day!
