the must-have jacket for spring + styling a “cropped” sweater

Shop this look

Going into spring there are obvious trends that you look forward to wearing.  (Like girly florals.)  Or accessories you’ll want to implement into your spring/summer wardrobe.  (Like a round bag.)  And today I’m going to share with you a jacket that everyone needs in her closet… the trusted trench.

Trends come and go, but a trench coat will absolutely never ever go out of style.  And the thing about it is that it always just looks so polished.  There’s never a time that a trench coat doesn’t look good.  From the office, to the weekend, this piece just really works with everything.  For example, I wore it on the plane with stripes and my favorite black pants and with today’s outfit.  Actually let me be honest — I wore it with EVERY outfit during our recent trip to New York.  It was MUCH colder than I expected and it was the only coat I had.  I was so happy I packed it!!

This “cropped” top comes in 4 colors.  To make it NOT cropped just pair with your favorite pair of high waisted denim.

These slides come in all the colors above!

Since trench coats come in about every price point imaginable here are some favorites: mine is from J.Crew but I’ve always dreamed of owning a black satin one from Burberry.  Looking for a lower price option?  Here’s a stylish one for under $70.

For now, let’s get back to talking about today’s outfit.  On this cold morning we sipped our coffee while walking through Bryant Park.  Times like this are what I love about NYC.  I love all the walking and parks throughout the city.  Since where I live never involves driving everywhere I never have to think about my shoes being comfortable… but in NYC that’s a different story.  So I’m happy to report that these slides are actually comfortable and easy to keep on your feet.  I did quite a bit of walking in them and they handled it perfectly!

Do you have a trusty trench that you adore?  Let me know!
