what to wear to work (and the honest reason of why I’m no longer in an office)

Lately I’ve received so many requests about what I wear to work.

The funny thing is, now that people are asking I’m actually no longer working in an office.  Ironic, right?  I wasn’t sure when to break the news and talk about it but this seems like as good a time as any.

… and here we go…

For the last several months you may have noticed from social media that I’ve been home a lot during the day.  Well, that’s because after 10 years at a wonderful job I was laid off… shortly after my husband was too.  Let’s just say it’s been a HELL of a couple months around here.  Living in Oklahoma City it’s pretty common to be employed by the oil and gas industry, which we both were.  If you’ve been watching the news or the price of gas you know things haven’t been going very well in the industry.  Between career issues and losing two grandparents, a totaled car, and the loss of a family pet, we’ve been hanging on by a thread.  Even with all that, life is looking up.  Seriously!

While most of AiW is not about our personal life, I felt it was important to be honest about this aspect of our life.  I’ve never been a person who needs motivation or inspiration but this year I’ve needed all of it, along with funny animal gifs and some extra hugs.  So where does this leave my family?  Well, pretty good actually.  I was working a day job, a part time job, and blogging almost full time, but I can now focus on my social media consulting and the blog.  Which I’m now happy to report — thanks to your support — has grown!

Getting laid off was just the push I needed to take the plunge and try blogging full time.  As for my husband, he thankfully landed a new job back in the oil biz and now works from home a few days a week.  And as for my family, since my grandfather passed away we’ve been busy getting my gran (the one whose house I’m always driving to on snapchat) ready to move here.  I’m so excited to have her living in OKC near me!  Now we just need to get my parents up here and my whole family will be in the same state… for the first time ever.

NOW that I got all that off my chest, let’s get back to the important stuff… le fashion!

Below are my favorite picks for what to wear to work when transitioning into fall and to help keep you cute while at the office, and I’ll be setting up a “What to Wear to Work” tab above in the SHOP section of AiW.  Keep checking back for my latest finds and thank you for listening to me talk about my life stuff.  Sometimes we all need a therapy session and this was mine.  And an even bigger thank you for supporting this blog.  I can’t thank you all enough for helping me achieve this dream of working in fashion!

XOXOXO Ally
