Austin has been a destination at the top of my shortlist for the past few years.  While I have visited the city before, I was so little that I didn’t get to enjoy any of the weird that Austin is famous for.  Now as an adult, and being an easy 6 hours away from OKC, there was no excuse for us not to plan a trip.  Especially once we learned our best friends were headed down for work.  So, in two words… road trip!   

For our trip to Austin, we wanted to enjoy the city in two different ways.  During the first part of our journey we planned to focus on exploring downtown which led us to call the W Hotel home.  It’s situated a the perfect location in the heart of the city, with views of the Colorado River and a quick drive to the happening South Congress Avenue.  And for the music lovers, the music scene in Austin is HUGE.  Just next door is the famed Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater (ACL Live).  I’ve never been so that’s another reason I’ll be returning to Austin soon!

Once arriving at the hotel we enjoyed a late lunch outside on the patio at TRACE, their farm to table restaurant.  The meal (make sure to try their tacos and margaritas) and weather were ideal for relaxing outside.  It was the perfect way to begin our trip!

Unfortunately, while we had been planning this trip for several weeks we hadn’t planned on the cold weather we experienced the following day.  I was looking forward to enjoying some pool time at the W Hotel’s Wet Deck but with temperatures in the 40’s that wasn’t going to happen.  W Hotel’s are renowned for their great pool scene, like what you may have experienced at a Vegas or South Beach pool.  I’m hoping we can come back this summer because we were told the parties there are INSANE.  And I love a good pool party.

 One of the highlights of our stay was when the hotel spoiled me with champagne and a face mask… I mean, it doesn’t get any better than that!  And just in case we had a little too much fun the night before they were kind enough to send us some fresh juice as a little detox.  Or… you could use it for a little hair of the dog with mimosas.  I’m on vacation after all!
