a foodie in Paris + learning how to order

I’ve been dreaming of Paris…

Time for a note of honestly — I ALWAYS dream of Paris!  It’s beautiful, romantic, fashionable and home to some of my favorite desserts.  The photos below show some of the delicious treats we sampled when we were in Paris a year and a half ago.  While the Ladurée macarons are tasty and trendy I will say the millefeuille (aka Napoleon) is one of the most perfect pastries known to man.  When it comes to desserts I have a total Napoleon complex.

While we were in Paris eating all these pastries, I secretly hoped my high school French would come back to me  (surprise… it didn’t).   When staring at the menu I knew most of the items but when it came time to speak to the waiter I got stage fright.  Since we’re currently in the midst of planning a Parisian trip, I think it might be time to brush up on my French.  The Farm to Table French Phrasebook is a darling book that will not only teach you the lingo of Paris’s restaurants and bistros but also provides authentic recipes to help get you in the mood.  It touches on wine and cheese pairings as well as proper table etiquette just in case you forget your manners after all that wine.

Do you have some spots in Paris you recommend or a favorite French dessert?  I would love to hear about them!  Please share your experiences in the comment section below.  Merci!
