My first professional non-retail job was as a receptionist. When I took the job my mind raced with outfit ideas. All I wanted to wear were bow tie tops. These shirts also known as “pussy bow blouses” (sorry I hate that name and refuse to use it…starting now) became popular in the 70s and 80s as women tried to climb the corporate ladder. To the millennial in me, these tops feel like stylish and vintage pieces. I have several and always find myself coming back to them. I consider this black and white bow blouse from Theory to be one of my new favorites.
I also must mention that every time I wear a bow tie top I think of the movie Working Girl. While I was way too little to watch it when it came out, it has become a silly favorite of mine. If you haven’t watched it do yourself a favor and check it out. Just so you know, when you finish you’ll be singing Carly Simon for the rest of the day. Fair warning.*
