When you land in Cusco you’ll start to notice you feel a little off. Your heart might begin to flutter and you might feel out of breath. With the city seated in the middle of the Andes Mountains, your body will quickly remind you that you are over 11,000 feet above sea level. Fortunately, our hotel provided “oxygen enriched” rooms to help acclimate to the high altitude.
Hotel Monasterio is a former monastery that was built on old Incan ruins. As you walk through the hotel you’ll hear the faint sound of monks chanting. The environment is BEYOND peaceful. My favorite part of the hotel were the various courtyards. They were the perfect place to read or sip a pisco sour, that is, if you don’t have altitude sickness. One cocktail goes a long way up here!
