decorating in Wonderland – living room edition

So you find the perfect house and you move in — the end.  We all know this isn’t the case.  The walls that you thought were grey now appear to be a weird green.  And if you’re Miss-I-can-do-it-myself you convince your poor husband you can indeed repaint everything yourselves and then spend all the money you saved on a beach in Bora Bora.  (We have yet to take that trip.)

Here is how the previous owner chose to furnish the house…

Tastefully done, but not our style.

We decided to paint the walls grey and the ceiling, crown molding, and fireplace white.  We fell in love with a sectional from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.  Honestly, I’ve never been a fan of sectionals but this one maximized the space in our living room and gave us a comfy place to lounge.  If you’re in the Oklahoma City area check out Port Interiors in Edmond — it’s an amazing store and an MGBM dealer.  (We love the owner who helped us with our sofa!)

Here’s the breakdown.

Still plenty of work ahead of us.

Here is the room without of all the scribbling.  At first we leaned towards a white rug, but now I’m not so sure…

In the war over the white or grey rug, Roxy has clearly chosen her side.  You might think, oooh how cute she is posing on that rug.”  She’s not posing, she just won’t get off that rug!  The white sheepskin rug is from Sam’s can you believe, and the grey one is from Urban Outfitters.

All of my favorite books now have a home underneath our “book it” coffee table.  It was the first piece of furniture we bought together.  I just love how modern it looks.  My Tom Ford book is standing guarding on the top of the table.  Nobody messes with Tom!

Here are a couple items I’m thinking about.

West Elm Bone side table

Jonathan Adler ‘Nixon’ throw

Fox Figurine (reminds me of a certain foxy furball)

This is where I need some help…

Would you go with a white/cream rug or the grey one?  What about a patterned one?  What about throw pillows, should I add some color or go with a graphic pattern?  I would love all the help I can get!
