The investment piece…
A term often used to get you to spend copious amounts of money on fashion/jewelry etc. It’s also a term I use quite a bit on this blog. I believe in quality over quantity — I would rather have one amazing sweater than three that will eventually fall apart. Of course, everything I buy isn’t an investment piece, I also enjoy finding a great deal at Target. Sometimes, Target is just as dangerous as Neiman’s! (Remember Missoni for Target?)
As a child I would often throw out the term “investment piece” to get the latest fashion piece I craved. (Sorry Mom, you did after all introduce the phrase to me!) One of the investment pieces was a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress. It was the late 90s and the wrap dress DVF introduced in 1972 was making a comeback, and I WANTED one soooo badly! After begging and pleading I got to take home that wrap dress and wore it in my eleventh grade portrait.
Back then I rocked a pretty mean bob…eek.
That dress is now 14 years old (yikes) and I still wear it proudly. It may fit a little snug, but it still looks brand new. It’s a great example of an investment piece.
I find the wrap dress to be the PERFECT day to night dress. During the day add a scarf to make it more modest, but at night remove it and show those chi-chis off! Well not TOO much cleavage ladies…
Wearing in Wonderland – Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress, J.Crew cuff, Alexander McQueen scarf, House of Harlow ring, Diane Von Furstenberg ‘Zia’ heels (aka the most comfy heels ever!)
