Don’t say I didn’t warn you…

I can find no better way than to kick things off with that quintessential British brand, Burberry.   The highlight of the show was definitely the darling bowed belts.  Almost every look was finished with a nipped waist, a cute little bow belt, and dark tights.  So glad opaque tights are still in — I’m addicted to my black tights!

I was so lucky to have shared my first fashion week with my family in tow.  Both my Mother and Grandmother accompanied me on my little adventure to New York City.  Being my first time in the Big Apple staying at the Waldorf Astoria was a must.  The history of this beautiful hotel is astonishing — I wish I’d had more time touring this historic building.

When I heard that Ladurée was opening it’s first US store in New York, I was overjoyed!  Recently I’ve fallen in love with macarons and have been dying to try one of their authentic french treats.  The store on the Upper East Side didn’t disappoint.

Throughout fashion week I was changing my outfits.  Here are a couple of my favorites.

My last day of fashion week started with the Porter Grey presentation.  I loved this collection of shiny metallic fabrics, leather shorts, capes, and over-sized blazers.

I LOVE this dress with the cut-out sides…

A nice cohesive collection of easy wearable pieces.  No need for runway theatrics, these clothes speak for themselves.

Everyone’s favorite purveyor of home deliciousness is having a huge sale right now.  Like today only.

And since I’m a brand new homeowner (woohoo) I really want to order EVERYTHING for my future abode.  Here are the items I’m obsessing with at the moment.

The “twinkle” bed~

Yep, that’s really the name of it.  This was one of the items I figured future hubby would hate, but actually quite the opposite happened. He really likes it, yay for me!

“Palazzo vintage” vanity accessories~

This set is just uber girly and it has the word “vintage” in it.  When I see the word vintage, it’s like a moth to a flame, so just step out of the way people.

Janice Minor “porcupine quill” mirror~

A long time ago I fell in love with a porcupine necklace at an art show.  I loved the danger of the necklace — if I sat down while wearing it I would run the risk of puncturing a major organ.  Awesome, right?  Here is the necklace if you missed it.

This mirror is just like that necklace only better.  The only problem is future hubby REALLY doesn’t like it.  I can’t imagine why…

A holiday when single people are forced to feel bad about themselves, and when people in a relationship are forced to spend money on each other.  What a groovy holiday!

In that spirit, my wish list is relatively inexpensive.  I’m craving bold color blocked items for under $150.  I guess I’m a cheap date this year!

It was clearly not going to be your normal fashion show…

The style of the show was beautiful – it felt like I walked into a fashionable barn!

While the presentation was refreshingly different, I must admit the collection was not my thing.   It did not seem very cohesive but there were a few pieces that I enjoyed.

I rarely wear flats but in the summer I love a great sandal.  These Candela gladiator sandals are on my must have list!

What did you dolls think of this collection?

The aesthetic channeled a very 70s chic vibe, with color blocking and contrasting panels.  My favorite design had to be the pleated skirt with sheer and opaque fabric.

Most of the looks were dresses — Max Azria’s specialty.  BCBG has always been a go-to brand when it comes to finding a great dress.  I particularly loved the white dress that closed the show.

I did, however, find it a bit strange that the collection did not feature a single sweater. They made up for that lack of warmth with the use of trenches and fur.  Overall I found it to be a very wearable collection.

My current BCBG obsession… BCBGMAXARIA ‘Marcel’ heels.  Wouldn’t these be just dreamy with white jeans this summer?

I know every girl who dreams of fashion week says, “it’s surreal” or “I’m so lucky to be here.” BUT it was and I am!

Let me explain.

As a kid I was completely and utterly fashion obsessed.  From birth.  Really.  Instead of wallpaper I would post my favorite fashion ads and layouts on my wall.  During my tweens when my friends were off being boy crazy and reading magazines like Bop, I was studying trend forecasts by reading Vogue and Mirabella.  Every Saturday morning I faithfully watched Style with Elsa Klensch on CNN.  I also adored Fashion File and House of Style on MTV, and who remembers Todd Time?  I miss you Todd Oldham. (sigh)

Soooo after reading all that, you’ll understand why this first show was a HUGE deal for this girl from Oklahoma.

So first up, Nicholas K.

To start with, I’m a huge fan of Nicholas K.  I have several pieces and appreciate their take on minimalistic modern fashion.

Also I was so happy to have run into a fellow blogger and twitter friend of mine Flor de Maria Rivera.  She was so sweet and stylish (I’m totally stealing her Prada ‘baroque’ sunglasses)

As for most fashion show virgins, I was standing in the back.  No seat assignment for this newbie.  Lucky for me none other than the queen of fashion PR, Kelly Cutrone, moved me down into the seats.  When she yells at you, you listen.  I ended up on the second row, right behind behind Elle fashion editor Joe Zee. As you can see, my seat was perfect.

First thing I really noticed (after the shock wore off) were the turtle shell necklaces dangling from several of the models’ necks.  And the hats… lots of cowboy hats.  This collection was like a nomadic desert cowboy, complete with holster vests and boots.   Along with their draped tissue knits, structured jackets and and dropped crotch pants, the addition of beading and sequins gave this southwest collection a bit of glamour.

One of my favorite pieces was this sequin fringe top.

It was even better when she turned around.  The back had a racer back that attached to a hoodie.  And even though I don’t wear them, I’m a sucker for an amazing hoodie.

But let’s go back to the beginning.  The show started with more rustic pieces.  Lots of leather and fur with the occasional fringe detail.  Almost like a gothic futuristic cowboy.

And then the show worked in some delicious bead work.

Check, please.

All in all, a very wearable collection.  I plan on stocking up on the draped tees and knits and of course the jackets. They are masters of the structured jacket with high collar.  These are just the details Wonderland goes crazy for!
