Banana Republic for Mad Men

Exciting news!!!

Banana Republic will be debuting a Mad Men inspired collection August 11.

Mad men banana republic

This is good because I need my yearly MM fix!  This summer they were SUPPOSED to start the new season of Mad Men, until a certain creator had to go and ruin everything!

Since I have to wait until next year to watch my beloved Mad Men, I will be doing more of the following:

                    a)  Drinking (martini, yes please)

                    b)  Fake smoking (ummm, cancer and wrinkles are not cool)

                    c)  Wearing my hair in an over-sized bun (it's my dirty hair trademark)

                    d)   Pouting like Betty Draper (see below)

Mad men me
Here I am pretending to be Betty so that I could win a Mad Men contest.  I didn't, and yes, I'm still bitter!

(Wearing Mikimoto pearls, vtg ring, vtg coat, Marc Jacobs skirt and Miu Miu chunky heels)

Unfortunately, Banana Republic has not released any clothing pics.  Below are the only ones I could scrounge up, so I apologize for them being blurred and tiny.

snow day

With a 100% chance of 8 to 10 inches of snow, it appears I will be snowbound for the next couple days.

And I couldn't be more EXCITED!

I have a busy couple of days planned out, therefore, it's important to have a schedule.

What I will be doing…

Eat.

Sleep.

Drink.

Sleep.

 Movie.

Eat and Drink.

Fall asleep to another movie.

REPEAT.

What I will be drinking…

Wassail

  • 10 small apples
  • 10 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 2 bottles dry sherry or dry Madeira
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3 cloves
  • 3 allspice berries
  • 1 inch stick cinnamon
  • 2 cups superfine sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 1 cup brandy

  •

Core the apples and fill each with a teaspoon of brown sugar. Place in a baking pan and cover the bottom with 1/8-inch of water.

Bake in a 350°F oven for 30 minutes or until tender. Combine the sherry or Madeira, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, allspice berries, cinnamon, sugar and water in a large, heavy saucepan and heat without letting the mixture come to a boil. Leave on very low heat. Beat the egg yolks until light and lemon-colored. Beat the whites until stiff and fold them into the yolks. Strain the wine mixture and add gradually to the eggs, stirring constantly. Add the brandy. Pour into a metal punch bowl, float the apples on top and serve in 8-ounce mugs.

Note: If there is a problem with eggs in your region, do not prepare this recipe.

Note 2.0:  I will NOT be using eggs.  I prefer my alcoholic beverages without a side of salmonella poisoning.

Happy New Year! (Can I still wear sequins?)

New Year's Eve has now come and gone but I still like my sequin top.  Can I wear it after the holiday?

    I say YES!

    Let's review…
