sit on it

Being magazine obsessed, my house is completely littered with glossy fashion bibles.  Most the time I can't bare to let them go!  What if I want to look at the July 2009 Bazaar layout with model Doutzen Kroes?

winter shorts

 Winter shorts.

I don't know if I can dig it… but I'll try them out due to a request from my dear friend Katherine.

Instead of buying them I shall make my own.

Shorts upclose

In their previous life these were wide-leg sailor pants, purchased at J. Crew when I was in 10th grade.  Yes, that makes them a little over 10 years old.

Aged perfectly.

Took them to my tailor (a.k.a Mummy) and voila we have cuffed winter shorts.

Shorts 1
My dressy shorts look has them paired with Etoile Isabel Marant blazer, Spanx tights, cheapy bracelets, and Max Azria booties.

the dandy warhols

Andy Warhol.  Art, fashion and music.

I believe he and I are kindred spirits.

Warhol and me

A brief Warhol history:

 - Warhol had his first big break when the fashion magazine Glamour asked him to illustrate an article for them in 1949.  Below are several of his fashion illustrations created for magazines or ads.

- In the late '50s, Andy became one of the leaders of the pop art movement.

- During the  '60s, he made a series of films about time, boredom and repetition.  His first film Sleep, was a 6 hour film of his friend sleeping.  One could believe this was a forerunner of today's reality TV.

And we all know his famous quote:  "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes."

- In 1969, Interview magazine was founded by Andy and journalist Jake Wilcox and is still in circulation.

- In the mid-'60s, Warhol established his studio, The Factory, and he chose The Velvet Underground as his house band.  The band was around from '65- '73 with the best-known members being Lou Reed (love him!) and John Cale.  They broke ground with their unconventional lyrics and nihilistic attitude.  They also have been credited with beginning the punk rock movement.  Andy, of course, created the cover art for their first and most well-known album.

- In the 60s and early 70s, he focused mainly on commissioned portraits of celebrities, kings and rock stars.

- In the '80s, Warhol began friendships with upcoming younger artists, such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Julian Schnabel.   He and Jean-Michel collaborated on a number of paintings, but none were critically acclaimed.  They continued to be good friends until his death in 1987 due to complications from a routine gallbladder surgery.

Andy's influence continues to this day.

One of my favorite designers and Warhol fan Diane Von Furstenberg has made her Summer 2010 using his prints.
