keeping your skin hydrated during the summer

With summer only weeks away, I know you’re probably dreaming about vacations, pool parties, and hitting the beach. I’m the exact same way! While we don’t personally have a pool, we are fortunate enough that our family does and I’m planning on spending as much time in it as possible. For me, there’s nothing better than the long lazy days of summer.

While all that sunshine and time spent by the pool might feel wonderful, it can be really hard on your skin. Even though I’m extremely careful with my hair (keeping it out of the chlorinated water and spraying SPF on my strands) I sometimes end up neglecting my skin. All those bright sun rays, combined with the chemicals in the pool, will quickly dry it out. I expect my skin to be dry in the winter but not during the summer! Plus, with all those cute swimsuits and short shorts I’ll be wearing, I want my skin to be hydrated and glowing, right?

Speaking of showing off some skin, if you’re like me during these months you’ll be spending more time at the gym. All those long cardio sessions can leave you really dehydrated. And do you know where you’ll notice dehydration first? On your skin, of course! The older I get, the more I realize how important it is to stay hydrated. Not only because it’s better for you but because it will keep you looking younger.

staying hydrated in the summer

With all that said, here are two tips on how I keep my skin ready for summer and properly hydrated…

Water, water, and more water /// The number one way to stay hydrated is to drink water. No surprise there and as you may have guessed, during the summer you’ll generally need more than any other time of year. Obviously, you’re going to sweat more in the summer heat and combine that with your usual work-out, and that can leave you extremely dehydrated. You’ll need to make sure you’re replenishing all the fluids that you’re losing. One way I make it easy to remember to drink more water is by buying DASANI Bottled Water and keeping a bottle near me at all times. It’s my little reminder!

Remember to moisturize /// Always using a moisturizer is important but there are other ways to keep your skin hydrated in the heat. In addition to drinking plenty of water, use beauty products that contain ingredients that provide needed moisture to your skin. Member’s Mark Moisturizing Body Wash with Shea Butter cleanses and moisturizes your skin, and their Member’s Mark Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes have silk and hibiscus extracts to soothe and tone skin. Both products will help to replenish your dry summer skin.
